The London Borough of Sutton announces that the search for a highly skilled and experienced development partner to take forward and deliver the vision of The London Cancer Hub will launch in January 2019.

The London Cancer Hub is an ambitious project led by the London Borough of Sutton and The Institute of Cancer Research, London, which aims to create the world’s leading life-science district specialising in cancer research, treatment, education and enterprise.

The south London site is set to become a global centre for innovation, providing state-of-the-art new facilities and delivering increased benefits for patients.

The London Cancer Hub campus comprises 21 hectares and includes land owned by the ICR and The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust – which together rank in the top four centres in the world for cancer research and treatment.

Once completed, The London Cancer Hub will provide a total of 280,000 square metres of life-science facilities and will provide a unique opportunity for innovative companies to work alongside world-class scientists and clinicians at the ICR and The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.

The London Borough of Sutton has acquired 4.5 hectares of land within the campus, which represents the new commercial opportunity for a development partner. The plot offers an unrivalled opportunity to develop up to 100,000 square metres of life-science facilities and commercial space. The London Borough of Sutton is now seeking a long-term development partner with experience in delivering state-of-the-art life-science facilities to work with to deliver the vision for The London Cancer Hub.

Cllr Ruth Dombey, Leader of Sutton Council, said: “We are looking for a partner with financial capability and a long-term commitment to work side by side with us in a partnering arrangement, to engage collaboratively with our key stakeholders and to ultimately realise the ambition we hold for this site.”

Professor Paul Workman, Chief Executive of the ICR, said: “It’s exciting to reach such an important milestone in creating The London Cancer Hub. We have an opportunity to create something special here in south London that would be very hard to emulate anywhere else in the world. The London Cancer Hub will be a magnet for the world’s top cancer researchers, clinicians, pharmaceutical and biotech companies, and other innovative enterprises working together in a virtuous circle.”

The search for a delivery partner will officially launch in January 2019. The Prior Information Notice (PIN) has been announced, for more information please see the accompanying London Cancer Hub brochure.
